Important Update: UK Immigration Moves to Digital eVisa System

We’d like to inform you about an important change to the UK immigration system that will affect how your visa status is managed.

The UK government is transitioning from physical immigration documents to a digital eVisa system. This means that, instead of relying on Biometric Residence Permits (BRP) or vignette stickers in your passport, your immigration status will be available online in a secure digital format.

How This Change Affects You

Currently, when your UK visa is approved, you receive a vignette sticker in your passport. After arriving in the UK, you collect a BRP card, which confirms your visa duration and conditions. However, UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) is gradually replacing these with the eVisa system, aiming to complete this change by the end of 2024.

What is an e-Visa?

An eVisa is a secure, digital record of your immigration status. With an eVisa, you’ll no longer need a physical BRP card or vignette. Instead, your immigration status will be tied to your passport through a UKVI online account.

Key Things to Remember:

  • No Change to Immigration Status: Switching to eVisa does not change your immigration status or the conditions of your stay in the UK.
  • Simplified Travel: In the future, you will only need your passport, registered to your UKVI account, for travel to the UK.
  • BRP Valid Until End of 2024: Until the eVisa system is fully in place, you’ll still need to carry your BRP or vignette with your passport when travelling.

For those with a BRP expiring in December 2024, this is simply part of the transition to eVisa. After December 2024, all students will be able to manage their immigration status fully online.
