UK Student Visa Update: Increase in Maintenance Funds from 11 November 2025

The UK government has announced new financial requirements for international students applying for a Student Visa.

From 11 November 2025, students must show a higher amount of money to meet the maintenance (living cost) requirement under the Student Visa route. This update was published in the Statement of Changes to the Immigration Rules, on 14 October 2025.

What’s changing

To study in the UK, students must prove they have enough money to cover course fees and living costs for up to nine months. The amount required depends on where they will study.

From 11 November 2025, the required maintenance amounts will increase to:

  • £1,529 per month for courses in London (up to 9 months)
  • £1,171 per month for courses outside London (up to 9 months)

According to the official GOV.UK guidance, the funds relied on must be held for at least 28 consecutive days, and the end of that 28-day period must be no more than 31 days before the date of application.

With higher maintenance levels coming into effect, students should review their financial documents early to ensure their bank statements clearly show the new required amounts and meet the 28-day rule before applying.
